The story of how the state became the world’s most rice-intensive state by the time it was just a few years old, is well known and well told, but there’s still a lot more to it than meets the eye.
We sat down with Rick, the son of a farmer and a longtime member of the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA), to get his perspective on the state’s rice-to-food transition, and why he’s determined to keep his family farming, and what he’ll do with the new money he earns.
This story has been updated to include Rick’s response to The Oregonia’s story.
Oregon’s rice industry is a $1.2 trillion industry, but the current crop of rice is just 3.6 percent of the total market.
It’s growing by more than 8 percent a year, and in 2022, rice imports were about the same as they were in 2016.
That makes Oregon the biggest rice-producing state in the country, with more than 200,000 farmers and rice-eaters.
For years, farmers in Oregon had to deal with a difficult time keeping their land and crops growing.
We’re a very rural state.
It took us a while to figure out that we have a real problem with our rice.
Rick’s parents are both farmers.
They started their own small farm in the 1950s and then expanded into the soybean industry and eventually the wheat industry, which is the reason why Rick’s family has always been involved in farming.
Rick and his parents are a big part of the reason the rice industry grew so fast.
In the ’60s, they had to have more than 500 workers on their land, and that number doubled every 20 years.
They had to get permits for farmers to be on the land, which meant they had a lot of restrictions.
Rick, who is a retired truck driver and now works as a food safety inspector, says there are still some farmers who still have restrictions in place.
The problem is, they’re growing a lot faster than they can control the weeds and bugs and pests that can grow on the soil.
Rick says there’s one major challenge the industry has had, and it’s that Oregon’s rice farmers can’t afford to spend the money they do have.
Rick says he’s already been able to afford to grow rice on his land, but he wants to have rice for the rest of his life.
When we started our business in the ’70s, we could afford to pay for our own water, but now it’s only about $10 a month, which means that we can’t pay for a new irrigation system.
That’s not good enough for us.
Rick is also worried that if he can’t grow rice, other farmers won’t be able to.
He says that he’s worried that farmers like him who are not in the top 10 percent of income earners won’t get enough rice to feed their families.
He’s hoping that he can help farmers get ahead by working with farmers who can.
He also hopes that people like him can help educate people about the need to be farmers.
When you have a family, you want to be able at some point to give back to the community.
I’m a good farmer, but I don’t want to have to buy a $10,000 irrigation system to grow my own rice.
That just doesn’t feel right to me.
We’ve all heard stories like this, of farmers who’ve struggled to make ends meet and have to pay off debt.
We hear from farmers who say that they can’t find good-paying jobs, so they’ve taken on loans and have gone into debt.
Rick hopes that the drought can help change that.
He hopes that with the drought, farmers can finally afford to do what they’ve been working so hard to do.
